Other Fun Activities in Our Area

Hartshorne Woods
Explore a 736-acre park located in the nearby town of Highlands. Cascading views of the surrounding Bay, Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers, and not so distant Atlantic Ocean reveal New Jersey’s wild and beautiful side. Hiking trails range anywhere between .6 miles to 3.4 miles. Runners, hikers, equestrians, cyclists, and dog walkers are welcome! Discover pieces of the past while observing aging structures, once a part of an army defense command that was built in the 1940’s. Perhaps the right explorer will stumble upon the hill-top picnic table upon which you can catch glimpses of distant towns dotted along the shore (all the way to Asbury Park on a clear day)!

Visit Sandy Hook
Our beloved national park is located only about 10 to 15 minutes away. Because it is such a popular destination we would recommend giving yourself some extra travel time during our well-weathered summer days. Sandy hook beholds some of the most breathtaking views of the area. Relax by indulging yourself in the long beaches, whimsical foot trails, excellent fishing spots, and a 9 mile bicycle trail that loops entirely around the peninsula. Sandy hook also offers boat rentals, land tours, camping, food and drink, and great surf. Wildlife enthusiasts will be pleased to discover the plant and animal life present on this seven mile stretch of beach, ocean, and forest wonderland. Over 300 migratory birds can be found throughout the year, perfect for bird watching or just the casual observation. Visit the nation’s oldest lighthouse and wander through the World War II fort – turned park service facility. Learn more about Sandy hook through their website and one of the several small museums they have dotted around the fort and surrounding beach side areas. It is free to enter Sandy hook but there is a $15 charge for car parking between the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
